A culvert carries a ditch or watercourse under a driveway. Get the diameter, the invert level and the fall right and it disappears into the landscape. Get any of the three wrong and it becomes the reason your drive washes out.

Size it properly
Pipe diameter is based on the catchment it drains, not on what the old one was or what is cheapest. Undersized pipe is the most common fault we find.

Set the invert and fall
The pipe is bedded at the correct level with consistent fall so water flows through rather than ponding and silting it up.

Bed and backfill
Bedded on stone and backfilled in compacted layers. Poor backfill is why driveways dip over culverts.

Protect the ends
Headwalls, riprap or stone at inlet and outlet so the fill does not erode away from the pipe ends.

Driven by pipe length and diameter, depth, driveway surface, whether headwalls are required and how much traffic the crossing carries. County right-of-way permits may apply where the crossing meets a public road.
